DESCRIPTION
Menopause & Osteo pack (#10) offers a complete supplement solution combining an advanced multivitamin, a blend of isoflavone and black cohosh to ease the discomfort associated with menopause, and Vitamin D, Calcium and Magnesium to support bone health.
FUNCTIONS
Studies show that a high percentage of adults eat less than the minimum daily recommendation of 10 or more essential nutrients. Adequate amounts and proper balance of these nutrients are needed not only for maintaining good health, but also for the dietary management of the body’s structure as well as the optimal functioning of the body, such as the immune and gastrointestinal systems. Ultra Health, a multivitamin with over 50 nutritional ingredients had been carefully developed to contain the right proportions of vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and other nutrients without danger of toxic build-up or other side effects to support optimal health and vitality.
Isoflavone Blend is a combination of soy isoflavones and the herbs, black cohosh and red clover, carefully formulated and specifically designed to support a woman’s healthy and trouble free transition through menopause. Isoflavones are a class of phytoestrogens, plant-derived compounds that are similar in structure and/or function to animal estrogens. Although the most well known and significant dietary source of isoflavones is the soybean, another source is red clover, Isoflavones have both weak estrogenic and anti-estrogenic activity, which may contribute to their ability to moderate menopausal symptoms and support maintenance of bone mineral density. Isoflavones also help protect the cardiovascular system, support the immune system, inhibit angiogenesis, and protect against oxidative damage as antioxidants.
Black cohosh, Cimicifuga racemosa, an herb with a long history of use in Native American cultures for gynecological disorders, is currently seen as a natural way to normalize hormonal changes and moderate the uncomfortable symptoms that accompany menopause. Black cohosh works largely through the synergistic activity of two types of compounds: phytoestrogens and triterpenes. Phytoestrogens, a class of flavonoids with mild estrogenic sudden increases in LH secretion, which occur in response to declining estrogen levels, appear largely responsible for many symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, irritability, heart palpitations, and headaches. Additionally, the concerted activity of formononetin and triterpenes appears to aid in the regulation of estrogen balance. As with other estrogenic compounds, the active constituents in black cohosh extract may have beneficial effects on the structure and function of the cardiovascular and skeletal systems of postmenopausal women. As such, black cohosh offers a safe and natural method of balancing hormone levels and easing the uncomfortable symptoms of menopause.
Calcium & Magnesium delivers six sources of calcium, magnesium and other nutrients to help maintain healthy bone structure. Bone is constantly turning over, a continuous process of formation and resorption. In children and adolescents, the rate of formation of bone mineral predominates over the rate of resorption. In later life, resorption predominates over formation. Therefore, in normal aging, there is a gradual loss of bone. Intestinal calcium absorption ranges from 15 to 75% of ingested calcium. Vitamin D is a key regulatory hormone for calcium and bone metabolism. Adequate vitamin D status is essential for ensuring normal calcium absorption and maintenance of healthy calcium plasma levels. Magnesium absorption is independent of vitamin D status and ranges from 30 to 60% of ingested magnesium Osteoporosis, a condition of reduced bone mineral density that can increase risk of fractures, affects a large proportion of the elderly in developed countries. It is generally accepted that obtaining enough dietary calcium throughout life can significantly decrease the risk of developing osteoporosis. Among other factors, such as regular exercise, gender and race, calcium supplementation during childhood and adolescence appears to be a prerequisite for maintaining adequate bone density later in life. But even elderly osteoporotic patients can benefit significantly from supplementation with dietary calcium.
Calcium & Magnesium provides a highly beneficial source of dietary calcium together with other nutrients that assist in the maintenance of healthy bone structure and function.
Pycnogenol is one of the most powerful natural free-radical scavengers yet discovered. As such, it reduces oxidative damage to vital tissues and helps maintain a healthy capillary system. Pycnogenol's antioxidant activity is many times more effective than that of vitamin C and vitamin E. Pycnogenol enhances the effectiveness of vitamins C and E and can be taken together with these vitamins for added benefit. The unique nutrient mixture supplied by Pycnogenol helps maintain a healthy capillary system in several ways. It protects vitamin C which is necessary for the production of ollagen. Pycnogenol can also naturally stimulate production of nitric oxide in blood vessels which is vital for supporting normal arterial health. Furthermore, Pycnogenol binds to collagen fibers, protecting them from attack by free radicals so that the natural elasticity of collagen in skin, joints, arteries, capillaries and other tissues is maintained.

Are Functionalab products adequate for Vegetarians or Vegans?
It depends on how strict you are following your vegetarian or vegan diet. Please note that if a gelatin capsule is used (indicated as "gelatin capsule") it is from bovine. We list fish gelatin as well. If you are looking for vegetarian capsules, these are from plant cellulose and it will be indicated on the label.
